So,
I've mentioned in a previous post that I was OFFICIALLY on the quest
of adding a few squares to my arsenal of
pashminas! Now, I have to tell you that I am using the word "quest"
here because there is ABSOLUTELY NO market for them in the south/
central Virginia Area.
Actually, there
isn't much of a market for any sort of hijab in the Richmond/Lynchburg
area-unless you go the Target/H&M route. Which is odd because there
are quite a few muhajabah in the Cap City area. My guess is that the
majority probably order them on-line or shop at Target/ H&M.
Soooooooo, if you are a Muslimah who would like to open up a store in
the Richmond area you would CLEAN UP LOL!!! Anyway while pursing the
Internet one Saturday I happened upon Al
Mujalbaba a US on-line
clothing store that caters to muhajabah and munaqabah.
Their specialties are jilbabs (in various colors and a few different
styles) and square printed/solid georgette khimars (even as large as 60 inches!), and printed yoryu khimars.
Side Note- Before I ordered from them I had NO idea what yoryu was or
is. Initially, I wanted to order a slew
of them but I decided to just try two to see how I liked them first.
So, altogether I ordered 1 44 inch square black
georgette khimar, and 2 yoryu printed khimars.
But unfortunately they were out of stock in one and they were supposed to
send me one as a courtesy but somehow our wires got crossed and I only received
the black 44 inch georgette and one of the printed yoryu-and of course I was
refunded the money for one of them.
So
here is a review for those two khimars.
I’ll start with the difference between yoryu and georgette –in laymen’s
terms of course. Yoryu is very similar in texture and feel to georgette
however, it is lighter and more slinkier (good summer fabric) with a bit of stretch to it.
It does drape a little better then the
georgette though and if you look at them closely you will see tiny fine lines
as opposed to the georgette which is smooth and a little more stiff.
Although, I must say that I still love
georgette-I don’t know for some reason it looks more polished to me-especially
the solid colors.
The georgette that
Al-Mujalbaba uses is substantial and good quality and surpasses what I even see
at the Islamic Place in Philly.
If you
are looking for good quality square solids then all Mujalbaba is the place to
go! The prices are very reasonable- the georgette squares are $7 and the yoryu
printed scarves are $8.
The only qualm I
had with Mujalbaba was the shipping.
It cost
like $12.95 to ship 2 scarves and the company is based in the United States!
But I am thinking that if you order more then
the shipping becomes less expensive. All-in-all I had a good experience with
Mujalbaba-the quality of their khimars were “top notch” and they have a variety
of prints and colors to choose from.
They have something like 99 different prints and 38 different
colors.
They are a US based company,
they’ve been around for a while and they have an awesome reputation-so I look
forward to ordering from them again!
I just got two Yoryu rectangle scarves. They were delivered this past Saturday so that's what I mean by just. I'll be trying them out soon since I'll be in a hot climate for a couple of weeks insha'Allah. Now I'm wishing I got the square scarves instead. Oh well, maybe I'll get some once the summer starts.
ReplyDeleteHow do you like the Yoryu? I like the material-I was actually quite presently surprised. It seems like it would be great for hot weather-we'll see:-)
ReplyDeleteSo I am back from the very hot climate (Guinea) and the Yoryu held up. I wore a seamless under scarf from Ummah Couture underneath. Both were light so I wasn't baking in the 90+ degree weather. I will say that I would've liked more length with the Yoryu shayla style for more coverage.
ReplyDeleteEven though there are a lot of Muslims in Guinea, I didn't feel self conscious that someone was going to come up to me and be like ooo I can see your neck. The atmosphere is different than it is in the States. Besides it was too hot to be all like ooo I see your neck so I was okay. One would have to be up close to see it anyway. I stuck out looking like a foreign Muslimah, but it wasn't because of the Yoryu ;0).
I think I'll check out their square Yoryu scarves.
What are the dimensions for the Yoryu hijabs? Are they smaller, equal size, or larger than the 44'' square hijabs?
